If you’ve been trying to sign into your Steam account this evening, you may notice that there appears to be some connection issues as it appears that Steam servers are down.

Update: It appears that the servers are slowly coming back up as users are now reporting that they can log in now.

While Valve and the official Steam Twitter support have yet to acknowledge any issues with the service, a large number of reports on both Twitter and Downdetector, as well as on our end, confirms that Steam is indeed down. Upon attempting to log into the client either via browser, or through the dedicated app, users will encounter the following connection error.

It seems we’ll just have to wait this out until Valve has resolved the issue, and we will continue to update this post once any progress is made. For now, if you want to play an online multiplayer game, you’ll need to wait, but if you do want to jump into any single-player game you can at least start the client in offline mode.
