Tekken 8: PS5 SSD “Biggest Thing to Evolve” Player Experience, Says Harada

tekken 8

In case you didn’t know, Tekken 8 is skipping last-gen platforms, and will be the first franchise entry exclusively coming to current-gen (PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC). While it’s easy to assume that the added horsepower of the current-gen hardware is what helps the game stand out, that isn’t exactly the case.

In the latest issue of PLAY magazine (issue #27), Tekken franchise boss Katsuhiro Harada mentions that it’s the PS5 SSD (solid state drive) that’s proving to be the game-changer for the new generation of consoles. Given it helps put people into matches way faster than your standard harddrive, this means that gamers can get into rematches much faster. According to Harada, “That’s probably even the biggest thing that’s gonna evolve the player experience in the game.”

Mind, this isn’t to say that Tekken 8 isn’t taking advantage of the added horsepower of the new consoles, as the various gameplay clips we’ve seen so far indicate that it has an added layer of sheen and better overall graphics compared to to its last-gen predecessor, Tekken 7.

In other Tekken 8 news, Harada also confirmed that rollback netcode and crossplay will be available in the fighting game. No word yet on a release date, but Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed that it will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
