For those wondering just how much time they’ll need in order to complete The Callisto Protocol, we now have the answer to that today though there are other things to consider outside of overall The Callisto Protocol game length.
Speaking in the latest issue of EDGE magazine (issue #377), Striking Distance Studios boss Glen Schofield mentioned that The Callisto Protocol game length is “trending towards 12 to 14 hours,” though there are “beta paths” that will add replay value beyond maxing out weapons and the like. Regarding these, Schofield states, “They came later in the game, but some of them are so freaking cool. And we don’t tell you where they are or how many they are. But if you really explore, it may be longer.”
Additionally, Schofield is hoping that these beta paths will “encourage conversations between players who took different routes to finish.”
Is 12-14 hours enough for today’s gaming audience? For me, personally, that’s fine, as long as the experience is good. What about you? Is that length good or lacking compared to today’s standards?
The Callisto Protocol will be available on December 2 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

I find a 12-20hr game much easier to replay than an 80+ hour game filled with mediocre fetch quests. I’ve replayed all 3 dead space games several times and I’ve enjoyed the new game+ where I can keep my stuff but play on a harder mode. It’s a beautiful way to revisit an epic story. I’ve only played breath of the wild once and I probably won’t ever start again. But I’m ready to replay GOW before Ragnarok for the 4th time because it’s an adventure and only takes a few days to enjoy.
Exactly. That’s why the obsession with game length is so weird to me. I put more time into shorter games because they’re so much easier to replay and if a game is great I always want to replay it.
Also why I think replayability is such a nonsense term. Everything is replayable.
The quality of the experience should matter a lot more than how long a game is because what good is a long game if it’s not as good as a short one and what good is a “replayable” game if it’s not as good as a totally linear one?
