The Witcher 3 Remastered PC Performance Issues Relating to Hairworks Identified by CDPR
For those that download and tried The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s remastered upgrade yesterday, chances are you’ve noticed a thing or two out of place.
If you’re on PC, if the bugs weren’t bad enough, the upgrade also affected performance too.
The good news? CD Projekt RED is aware of it, though it’ll need a patch to actually sort out, and is in no way just a configuration issue.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Hairworks Affecting Performance Acknowledged by Devs
If you’re unfamiliar with the haiworks issue, Geralt’s hair can look unnaturally shiny or plastic-like. This mostly happens due to the upgrade’s newer lighting and ray-tracing systems.
If that’s not bad enough, this has also been the case of performance drops, and this even makes Geralt’s hair look worse. Not only that, but some have reported crashes when hairworks is enabled too.
CDPR has acknowledged the issue and said, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on PC: We’ve identified an issue related to NVIDIA Hairworks that may significantly affect performance. We recommend disabling that setting until this is addressed in a patch.”
In addition to this issue, another thing CDPR acknowledged is a problem with DLSS and Xbox Play Anywhere. The devs commented, “We’re aware of the DLSS issue on Xbox Play Anywhere and are working on a hotfix that we expect to release as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!”
The PS5 version isn’t spared either, as we’ve seen performance issues affect that platform too.
Chances are, we’ll be getting a patch for consoles and PC to resolve these issues, and once it’s live, we’ll let our readers know.
If you’re on the fence because of these bugs, don’t be. Our review of The Witcher 3 Remastered lauds how much content CDPR inserted for free, and says, “The Witcher 3 stands as one of the best games of all-time, and this remastered upgrade further cements that. Now, there’s no excuse to jump in and test it out, or replay it for the umpteenth time.”
