World War Z: Aftermath Horde Mode XL Crawls Out Tomorrow With a New Map

world war z update 1.004

As announced earlier this year, World War Z: Aftermath’s Horde Mode XL is launching fairly soon on January 24, adding even more action to the zombie shooter title.

As the update nears release, PlayStation released a new trailer celebrating its launch. Check it out:

To accommodate the slew of zombies that will be heading your way, Horde Mode XL takes place on a new map that’s centered around a mall. A survivor camp is found there, and your task is to prevent the hordes of zombies from reaching the camp.

There are three potential areas where the zombies will come from. First is the Restaurant Area, with zombies coming from the nearby village and temple. There’s also the Riverside Area, where you’re going to need to stop zombies coming from the city. Finally, the Construction Area will have zombies pouring through a nearby factory. With three different locations to protect and defend, it’ll definitely make for quite the challenge.

Of course, with Horde Mode XL piling zombie wave after zombie wave against you and your team, you’ll need more than just good guns to get the job done. By using defenses scattered around the map, you can use supplies to activate them and deal tons of damage to the zombie horde. You’ll need to gather enough supplies to engage the defenses, however, so you’ll have to set the defenses up while taking down any nearby zombies with your firearms.

Aside from Horde Mode XL, a new weapon progression system will be introduced. This system will not factor in skins when it comes to your weapon’s stats, and you’ll instead work with weapon perk slots to customize your loadout. As part of the new system, you’ll also get to unlock a bunch of free skins, so there’s a good reason to grind.

We anticipate that there’s going to be a patch with this new content, and once it’s out, we’ll let our readers know.
