First revealed with a teaser trailer at August’s gamescom 2022, Wyrdsong is a AAA open-world RPG from the newly-formed studio Something Wicked Games. The studio, led by Jeff Gardiner (Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76) as CEO and Charles Staples (The Outer Worlds, Fallout: New Vegas), has been significantly expanding operations in the time since. With new Canadian offices and the recruitment of over 30 game development veterans with credits ranging from Cyberpunk 2077 to God of War and even Neverwinter Nights, Something Wicked Games is incorporating an incredibly diverse plethora of influences into its new project.

The studio has also shared a progress update, revealing that the game’s main story has already been writing along with its three main factions. A unique quest and story tool has been crafted with the input of the ex-Bethesda and Obsidian developers working on the game. Currently, the studio is building a “Beautiful Corner” in Unreal Engine 5 to define the aesthetic experience of the game as well as a “Gameplay Prototype” where it will work on the gameplay and combat elements. Once these development implements are completed, they will be merged into a definitive whole and production on the game will begin in earnest.

Wyrdsong does not yet have a release window, and Something Wicked Games has not revealed what platforms the game will come to either. For more information, head on over to the studio’s website.
