Obsidian Entertainment CEO on Possible Fallout Game: “I Would Love to Make Another”

The Fallout games have had their highs and lows, and Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout: New Vegas is one that fans of the franchise fairly enjoy. Unfortunately for the hopefuls out there, Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart confirmed that the studio is not working on a Fallout sequel, though he did express an interest in making one before his retirement.

The clarification was made in an interview with the game studio founder, who also talked about the highs and lows of his professional career. Toward the end of the interview, Urquhart was asked to comment on a “hypothetical new Fallout from Obsidian.” His response was as follows:

We’re not working on it right now, our plate is pretty full with AvowedGrounded and Outer Worlds 2. I don’t know when we’re going to start talking about new games, maybe towards the end of next year [conversation took place before Christmas 2022 – ed. note]. We just have to see what’s going on. That’s the best way to say it. There’s nothing in the plans, nothing on the piece of paper that says that.

Urquhart did end on a high note in the interview, however, citing that he is interested in working on another Fallout title before his retirement.

I would love to make another Fallout before I retire. I don’t know when that is, I don’t have a date of my retirement. It’s funny – you can say I’m already 52, or only 52. It’s one of those two, depending on the day. My hope is that’ll happen, but we’ll have to wait and see.

As Obsidian is currently busy with multiple titles, Urquhart reveals that the studio just doesn’t have the capability to work on a sequel at the moment. To put things into perspective, Fallout New Vegas was released way back in 2010, and the franchise’s most recent mainline game, Fallout 76, is already four years old.

Though we won’t be seeing a Fallout title from Obsidian anytime soon, it’s at least good to know that its CEO still thinks positively of the franchise.
