Xbox System Update November 12

Microsoft has rolled out a new Xbox system update on Sept. 23, and this minor firmware patch doesn’t add any front-facing features, which is understandable, given if we’re getting a significant update, we’d hear about it first.

Gamers on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One should see the download pop the moment they open the console, and it should be a small download.

Microsoft states this new system update will bring the OS version to 10.0.26100.5723.

The changelog for this only mentions:

  • General stability and performance improvements.

This blanket statement could apply for anything under the sun, and more often than not, is also aimed at the homebrew scene and hackers. Whenever an exploit is discovered or a potential backdoor is about to be exposed, Microsoft’s engineers are quick to patch it. Given that we just received the Play Anywhere filtering feature in the August system update, it’s understandable if this one focuses more on backend improvements.

In other Xbox news, the developers of Battlefield 6 recently admitted that they had issues running the first-person shooter on the Series S, citing the console’s limited memory as the cause of the issues. While that might be the case now, it worked out in the end, as optimizing it meant the game was optimized on all platforms.

When it comes to games, one of the canceled projects from Microsoft’s recent layoffs is the Perfect Dark reboot by The Initiative. We managed to scrounge up soome concept art and gameplay details of the project, which seemed like the devs had the right idea.
