Those hoping to play XDefiant on PC without having to login to Ubisoft Connect, there is a chance of that happening, as an XDefiant Steam release has not entirely been ruled out.
This was mentioned by game Producer Mark Rubin over on Twitter, where he answered a fan that while it’s not happening now, it is possible in the future.
I don't see every question but I always try and answer questions when I can. Steam won't be something right now. Possible future. We need to do some work to get steam working with Ubiconnect for our game so it's not a freebie.

Is XDefiant Coming to Steam?
Not at launch, but Ubisoft’s Mark Rubin hasn’t ruled it out in the future
While that’s good news, those hoping to see a physical version of the game shouldn’t hold their breath, as Rubin also confirmed that given XDefiant is a free-to-play game, we won’t see physical copies of it on store shelves anytime soon.
Yea as a free-to-play game there won't be physical copies. Would be nice though I still like real copies especially on games I've worked on. 1

While there are F2P games that saw a physical copy release onto stores (example: Fortnite), it’s very, very rare. Of course, you have to factor in that the publisher will have to spend money in order to sell the games in a physical state (logistics, case and cover art costs, disc printing, etc.), so seeing a digital-only release for XDefiant definitely makes a lot of sense.
XDefiant has no release date just yet, but the game is still “on track” per Rubin. Mind, this summer release target is just for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions, as the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game still has no definite release window just yet.
