While unannounced, it seems that Infinity Ward may be preparing for the multiplayer launch as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Update 1.03 has just been released on all platforms, weighing in at a whopping 40GB.

While Infinity Ward has yet to confirm the details of this update, it is assumed that this is the day one update for Modern Warfare 2, and is being dispatched early so that it can prepare players for the multiplayer launch happening this Friday. This update is only available to those who pre-ordered to gain access to the early campaign release, while it’ll be included in the initial download for those waiting for the multiplayer release.

This new update won’t let me play campaign anymore
it’s literally telling me I have reset my ranks and my unlocks to play it
Same I can’t play the campaign I thought the days of messed up updates where over but I guess not leave it to Activision to mess up an update before the game comes out.

Try signing in offline, then resume game. It’ll make you download the campaign packs. Make sure you get both campaign packs to download

Just stupid. That’s all I have to say..
Apparently you’ll have to re-download both campaign packs again to be able to play. Doing that now, so I guess we will see.
After installing and resetting ranks.. my installing screen freezes.. anyone having this problem?
yes
I figured out a backdoor into it that doesn’t require reinstallation. The exact steps were go in, once you see the infinite install bar back out. Go in again, back out once more. From here hit start/options then press r3 to report player. Once on this screen back out and you should be at campaign screen. Straightforward from there.
I can’t play campaign after reinstalling hope yall fix this problem before full release
