Speculation – Is Xbox Hyping Up a Gears of War Announcement?

Is Microsoft ‘gearing’ up for a Gears of War-related announcement? The launch of an oddly-timed Gears of War 3 midnight launch video appears to suggest so.

The company published the footage (above) earlier today, celebrating the midnight launch of Epic’s Gears of War 3 in New York, Mexico City, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea in 2011. Having released in September, it’s not like the Xbox team is celebrating any sort of anniversary for the series, so it leads us to wonder if the studio is merely trying to build up excitement for Black Tusk Studio’s unannounced Gears of War Xbox One project. Honestly, it’s about time we heard something anyways.

Black Tusk, for those who might not remember, is a newly formed Microsoft studio based out of Vancouver, Canada that is leading development on the newest chapter of the long-running Xbox-exclusive third-person shooter series. We learned of its new status back in January of 2014 and have heard little since, other than a few job postings and the studio’s excitement for toying with “awesome” and “innovative” concepts for the title.

As we approach E3 2015 only a few months away, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Microsoft were to announce an E3 announcement some time soon, so keep your eyes and ears open. This video could very well be the start of the company’s new Gears of War marketing campaign.

Gears of War: Judgment was also recently made available as a free download for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360.

Are we looking for clues that aren’t there, or do you think some sort of Gears of War announcement is impending?
