Valve Sends Replacement Steam Machine After Delivery Company Leaves Package to Be Stolen
Valve has often faced criticism over the price of the Steam Machine. However, despite the critisim, the company has continued to support its hardware customers, even when problems happen outside its control.
A recent case involving a stolen Steam Machine is another example.
Reddit user mdumtshali recently shared what happened after his Steam Machine was stolen during delivery. He was likely among the first to order the device, but the delivery did not go as planned.
Valve Sends a New Steam Machine After Delivery Theft
According to his Reddit post, he received a notification saying his package was out for delivery while he was at work. Since nobody was home, the delivery driver decided to leave the package at the gate and took a photo as proof that it had been delivered.
When mdumtshali returned from work, the package was gone. He confirmed through his home security cameras that the driver had left the package exactly where the delivery photo showed. However, the cameras did not capture the person who stole it.
Valve first asked him to check whether a neighbor had taken the package to keep it safe, which is a standard step in these situations. After his neighbors confirmed they had not collected it, Steam Support told him that a replacement Steam Machine was already being sent.
Even though the theft was not Valve’s fault, the company still replaced the device instead of passing the problem on to the customer. This has clearly earned praise for Steam’s customer support.
However, it also shows that expensive products like this should always require a signature upon delivery, and it is better for someone to be present at the time of delivery so that situations like this do not happen.
