Control Resonant Reveals Its Length, Combat Details and How It Draws Inspiration from Devil May Cry
Remedy has shared new details about Control Resonant, including how long the game will take to complete and the main inspirations behind its hack-and-slash combat system.
With less than two months left before its launch, the sequel is shaping up to be a very different experience from the original Control.
Instead of being limited to the Federal Bureau of Control, players will explore an entire city with a new protagonist, new challenges and a completely redesigned combat system.
Control Resonant Will Take Up to 50 Hours to Complete

Now, Remedy has shared new details about the game, including its length, combat system, and much more. In a recent interview with TechRadar, lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov said the main story will take players around 30 hours to finish, while those aiming for 100% completion can expect to spend up to 50 hours with the game.
The longer campaign is designed to give players time to master Dylan’s full set of abilities, including supernatural powers, multiple ammunition types and the Aberrant, a shape-shifting weapon.
He also revealed that the combat system draws inspiration from several action games, including Capcom’s Devil May Cry series.
“We use references for the individual parts of the experience. I’m a big fan of DMC 2 and DMC 3, and PlatinumGames’ titles. It’s really hard to name one single reference, but I think if you play the game more, you’ll notice that there are things that have been done in other games, but I don’t think you can directly say Resonant is ‘exactly like this other thing,’” Mohov said.
He added, “We actually have a pretty long and eclectic list of references, and they’re not all video games. If I had to name one game that this game [Resonant] is trying to be like, it would be the original Control. That’s our number one reference for everything.”
Mohov also confirmed that playing the first Control is not required to understand the sequel. “I don’t think you have to play the first Control game to play Resonant, but if you do, it will enrich your experience, especially narratively.”
Finally, he revealed that Control Resonant will also include a story recap of the original game, accessible directly from the main menu for newcomers.
Control Resonant will release worldwide on September 24, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac.
