Fallout 76 Down on September 15 to Bring “The Slasher” Update
Heads up! Fallout 76 players might find that connecting to the game is next to impossible right now, and it’s due to the game’s servers undergoing maintenance.
Yes, Fallout 76 servers are down, and this is to bring a significant update that will drastically reduce the game’s size, and not only that, but also a native current-gen version for Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
This isn’t the only thing being applied today, but before that happens, the servers will be taken down first.
Fallout 76 Servers Down on September 15 and Here’s for How Long
Per Bethesda, the server downtime starts at 10 am ET/7 am PT, and while there’s no mention how long this’ll be, the standard maintenance times usually take 3-5 hours. With this one, it might even take longer given the technical measures being applied.
Per Bethesda, “For this update we are executing a repackaging of the game for all platforms to reduce the game’s overall file size. This means that the download size for The Slasher update will be larger than usual for all platforms but once downloaded the file size will be smaller than it is currently.”
For PS5, Xbox Series X|S players, “To gain the benefits that The Slasher update brings to your platforms, you will be required to download the XBOX Series or PlayStation 5 version of Fallout 76 from your respective platform store. The XBOX Series and PlayStation 5 clients have been scheduled to become available on XBOX and PlayStation stores at 12 PM Eastern time. At that time, we highly recommend uninstalling Fallout 76 and then downloading this new version of the game from your platform store.”

Aside from Fallout 76, Fallout 5 is in pre-production, as remasters for Fallout 3 and New Vegas are already in development.
