Alien: Isolation 2 Will Feature Photo Mode at Launch; Xenomorph More Intelligent and Won’t Stop Hunting Players When You Go Outdoors
After more than a decade, Creative Assembly announced that they were developing a follow-up to 2014’s horror hit, Alien: Isolation.
While there’s no release date to share yet, the developers are now slowly sharing info about Alien: Isolation 2.
In a new info dump, Creative Assembly shared differences from the first game to the sequel, how the Xenomorph is more menacing this time around and more.
Alien: Isolation 2 Will Feature a Far More Aggressive Xenomorph
In a new video Q&A by Creative Assembly, the developers took turns answering questions from the community.
Some of the info the devs talked about included the Xenomorph and how they are different from the first game. Based on what the developers have said, players are in for a world of hurt, as this seems to be a massive upgrade to the Xenomorph when it comes to AI behaviour.
According to Creative Assembly, they had to make the alien work in the exterior because in the first game, it was only in very small corridors and always inside. In Isolation 2, that changes.
The developers had to make sure the Xenomorph would work outside, and in a space that was around 10x bigger than what they had in the first game.
In terms of new behaviours, Creative Assembly mentioned the Xenomorph in the sequel will “be even more intelligent,” and will react to the player better.
Another thing the studio confirmed is that the creature will not stop hunting the player when you go outdoors, which should raise the tension up a lot more. According to the devs, the alien will use the fact that exteriors are exposed to hunt the player more aggressively, and it will even use the weather to hide its movements.
Additionally, the devs mentioned, “It will have new things it can learn over the original game. It will change its behaviour, each encounter, so that every time you face the Alien, you can’t just use the tricks you used the last time, whether that’s in interiors or exteriors.”
This will give the sequel a fresh experience, as the first game was mostly confined, and even claustrophobic to some extent; Isolation 2 will feature open spaces where the player is exposed, the wind is howling, a storm is raging, and you won’t be able to see clearly or hear properly, which contributes to the heightened sense of fear.
Alien: Isolation 2 Will Feature Photo Mode Confirmed, and Yes, There Will Be a Physical Release
In the same video Q&A, Creative Assembly confirmed Photo Mode will be in the game, stating, “Yes. I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to say that. Are we allowed? I want to give you guys everything that you can expect from a camera, so be it soft light, soft light intensity, brightness, exposure, saturation…anything that you can expect from a camera. Different depth of fields, different focal lengths, all of that.”
The developers also know Isolation 2 is a dark game, so they are giving players lights they can place in the game’s world, so that those taking pictures can see all the details.
Another thing the developers (kind of) confirmed is they want to add filters, especially filters that call back to the first movie. Expect logos, patches, stickers, so that players can customize the images that they make with frames, words and whatever come to mind.
Also of note: the studio confirmed Alien: Isolation 2 will feature a disc release. When asked whether if there would be a physical release, Creative Assembly answered with an emphatic and straightforward, “yes.”
Alien: Isolation 2 is set for release in 2027 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC.
