Alan Wake Remastered Breaks Even After Two Years

Two years after its launch, Remedy Entertainment has announced that they’ve recouped the cost of development and marketing for Alan Wake Remastered.

As revealed in Remedy Entertainment’s third-quarter fiscal reporting, Alan Wake Remastered has finally managed to break even, meaning sales have reached the point where the budget (development and marketing) have been covered, with any sales going forward netting profits.

“Looking specifically at the third quarter of 2023, revenue was at a similar level as it was in the comparison period. Development fees were somewhat lower than a year ago, which was mainly due to lower development fees from Alan Wake 2 as the project was nearing its launch. Royalties grew year-on-year, driven by Alan Wake Remastered, which recouped its development and marketing investments during the third quarter.”

Good news for Remedy, though two years is a very long time. That may be mostly due to it being a remaster of an old title that was mostly considered niche. That and a majority of people who own it can still play the original, whether on PC or Xbox, with PlayStation being the only new platform for the game.

Hopefully, its sequel, Alan Wake 2, sees far more success, though, given its Epic Game Store exclusivity and lack of a physical version, as well as it being the busy Holiday season with other releases, the game may be in for an uphill battle despite critic reviews of Alan Wake 2

Though Remedy’s games do seem to have long legs, so it’ll most likely be a matter of time, not if, before we hear on the success of the sequel.

Alan Wake 2 is now available for PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5.
