Last week, ARC Raiders managed to do something we don’t often see: an online multiplayer game outpacing its first weekend player count numbers.

More often than not, a multiplayer game’s highest peak is within its first weekend of availability, which is understandable given the hype is at its apex, and a ton of players will want to dip their toes into the new game pool.

However, Embark’s extraction shooter isn’t done yet, as it manages to establish yet another new concurrent player count record.

ARC Raiders Continues to Rope in Players on Steam in Third Weekend

On Steam, the game has now surpassed its previous record high of 416,000 players and reached an impressive 481,000 this weekend. Bear in mind that this is only Steam’s numbers and does not account for those playing on the Epic Games launcher or consoles (PS5, Xbox Series), which should also be quite sizable player counts.

While ARC Raiders might not be the first game to pull this feat off, it’s certainly one of the few in recent memory that has managed to do it. What’s even more impressive is, it did this with Battlefield 6 deep into its first season, and Black Ops 7’s first weekend of availability. For reference, Battlefield 6 has managed to achieve a 24-hour peak of 299,000 this weekend, while Black Ops 7 — which is primarily seen as a console game — only managed to achieve a total player count high of 100,000. Important to note that Call of Duty’s number is inflated, given it counts everyone using the Call of Duty HQ app into the equation. Having said that, the game is also available on Battle.net, so there’s a very high possibility that the PC players are using that launcher instead of Steam.

Can ARC Raiders manage to beat its Steam player high next weekend again? I honestly wouldn’t be surprised at this point, especially as we get nearer to the holiday shopping season.

For those who’ve seen this, are you surprised at this or not at all, given the quality of the game?

In other ARC Raiders news, Embark released The North Line free content drop this past week, though we’re expecting another update this coming week to address issues related to achievements and more.

Not aboard the ARC Raiders hype? You might be missing out. Our review sees it as the best multiplayer game of the year, as our own Jimmy Lara states, “I never pictured myself ever thinking that an extraction shooter could be my multiplayer game of the year. Yes, I am crowning ARC Raiders as the best multiplayer game that I’ve played all year.”
