Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden Is the “First Step of a Franchise” Says Don’t Nod, But Sequel Not Guaranteed

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden Update 1.004.001

If you played Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden to completion, you might have noticed that the game’s multiple endings — while have their conclusions — leaves the game open for a sequel. Now, the big question here is: are we getting a Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden sequel?

This was the very question we asked Don’t Nod in our exclusive interview, and while the studio didn’t confirm a second chapter is in the cards, their answer didn’t shoot the idea down, either.

MP1st: Is the studio planning a sequel? Maybe a DLC to expand on the story or ending? Or is Banishers more of a one-off thing?

Stéphane Beauverger, Narrative Director: We always consider our games as the first step of a franchise. As a Narrative director, it is part of my job to think ahead about future possible games taking place in the same universe. But such decisions are not made only by creative teams, more teams are included in the process!

While Don’t Nod’s Beauverger’s answer doesn’t guarantee a sequel is in development, it is part of their thought process, so don’t be surprise if one is in the works.

Of course, with the game’s multiple endings (there are four which you can read about here), Don’t Nod has to choose which one is canon to the story, though that’s also something we asked the studio in our chat.

In the same interview, Don’t Nod mentioned why they’re not warm to the idea of adding New Game+ to Banishers, and how it will reap “small” benefits.

If you’ve yet to play Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, you might want to remedy that, as it’s a solid open-world action game. Check out our review here where I state, “Prepare yourself for the first surprise hit of the year, and if the game’s quality is any indication, this looks like the start of a new franchise.”
