In case you didn’t know, DICE released a surprise patch for Battlefield 2042 this month, which introduced a new free Battle Pass that included a good chunk of rewards to earn for Battlefield 6.

This translated to an increase of over 500% for Battlefield 2042 on Steam alone! In just a few days, it even managed to surpass Call of Duty’s concurrent player count, essentially reviving the game, which many consider to be the weakest entry in the franchise.

This sudden popularity by BF2042 has translated to sales, and while I’m expecting the Battlefield 6 rewards to entice players to jump into BF2042 to obtain the rewards, I would never have guessed it would affect it this much.

Battlefield 2042 Sales Explode Thanks to BF6 Rewards Incentive

Alinea Analytics has mentioned that Battlefield 2042 has sold almost 500K units on Steam alone! This means that this number might potentially be significantly higher if you factor in PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and other PC digital storefronts.

Further helping the sales burst aside from the Battlefield 6 rewards is the game being priced at a super low price of $2.99 on Steam. Alinea Analytics estimates publisher Electronic Arts has earned a cool $1.4 million in Steam revenue from the title alone.

While DICE has released countless updates to BF2042 to make it more palatable to the Battlefield audience, the big draw here is no doubt the rewards tied to Battlefield 6. If you check social media (X, Reddit, etc.), you’ll see a lot of Battlefield fans talk about jumping into BF2042 just to earn the soldier skins and other rewards, though most are still unhappy about the shooter’s core gameplay.

At the very least, EA should be happy that Battlefield 6 is generating this much hype, to the point that gamers are even buying another game just to earn rewards for it.

In other Battlefield news, we recently posted a large collection of weapon camo images for Battlefield 6, which feature a more grounded look, with no neon or shiny-looking weapon skins.

While the BF6 beta showed us a good chunk of content, the latest build for the game in BF Labs features almost all the expected content in the final version of the game when it comes to gadgets, weapons and more.

Battlefield 6 will be released on Oct. 10 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
