With the Battlefield 6 open beta client now available for pre-load, DICE is opening up the line of communication regarding some of the design decisions they’re making from Battlefield Labs to Battlefield 6.

For those unfamiliar with BF Labs, it’s a testing branch of the game where DICE can see feedback, apply changes, and test them with real players in a closed environment. The developers have shared details on some of the changes they’ve made from BF Labs to the open beta, and there are some major ones made due to player feedback already.

Battlefield 6’s Assault Class Gets the Spawn Beacon in Class Shakeup

In a new announcement on the Battlefield Communications X account, the developers shared details on the map changes they’ve made, alongside the learnings from Battlefield Labs. One thing that caught our eye is how DICE is moving the spawn beacon gadget from the Recon class, which usually had it, to the Assault class who is usually in the forefront of engagements.

Based on DICE’s wording, the changes regarding classes won’t be felt in the open beta, but at launch, and the studio is making it know to players now that there major changes in the works.

The Assault class is undergoing a major rework in terms of gadgets and traits.

Key Changes to Assault Class:

Adrenaline Injector Rework

  • Old: Focused on self-healing and sustain.

  • New: Now boosts resistance to flash/stun effects, improves explosive/fire damage tolerance, and increases movement speed.

Impact: This reduces pure survivability in favor of tactical utility and push power, encouraging Assault players to lead charges or break through chokepoints with their squad in tow.

New Trait – Commanding Presence

  • Effect:

    • Speeds up objective capture for nearby squadmates.

    • Reduces time to exit combat status.

Strategic Value: Reinforces the Assault’s role as the vanguard in objective play. Squad positioning around the Assault now matters, directly benefiting from proximity.

Deploy Beacon Now Part of Assault

  • Change: Moved from Recon to Assault; renamed from Spawn Beacon.

  • Limitations:

    • Finite uses per squad.

    • Self-destructs if the Assault player respawns on it.

Rationale:

  • Prevents exploitative solo sniper behavior (say goodbye to snipers putting spawn beacons on top of building just to snipe nonstop)

  • Encourages tactical team-based redeployments for flanking, breaching, and coordinated objective pushes.

New Gadget – Assault Ladder

  • Functionality: Deployable as a ladder or ramp based on angle.

  • Uses:

    • Grants vertical access.

    • Enables creative flanks.

    • Opens up new map areas for team movement.

This is a standout addition—giving the Assault class the means to reshape map flow and offer spatial advantages to the team.

While the Engineer and Support classes largely remain unchanged, the Recon class is also getting a few key adjustments.

Battlefield 6 Recon Changes Applied Based on Feedback from BF Labs

DICE states they see the Recon class as someone who sabotages the enemy team and spreads disinformation. The class’ “Pathfinder” Training Class is being replaced with the Spec Ops, which focuses on stedalth, explosive-focused class that was last seen in Battlefield 2.

Per DICE, “This is the path for anyone who wants to take on the stealth function of their squad, providing them with insights on troop movement while quietly operating behind enemy lines:”

  • Spec Ops 0: Your base class training, available from the start and allows quieter takedowns, crouch and prone movement.
  • Spec Ops 1: Spots nearby enemy gadgets (except when sprinting).
  • Spec Ops 2: Going prone takes you out of combat much faster and removes the spot on self.

Additionally, the Recon class has an Active Ability at Level 3 that lets you call in a UAV to a marked position for passive spotting for the entire team.  When you couple that with the Recon’s Signature Trait, “Aim Spotting,” which automatically spots enemies while you’re aiming down sights (ADS). the class should provide more to the team than just sniping.

It’s impressive to see that DICE is doing this before the general public gets to lay its hands on the game; it speaks volumes to the change in the way the studio communicates to its player base.

The chance to try Battlefield 6 won’t be long now, as the pre-load for the open beta kicks off, and you can check the download links, schedules and more in our handy guide.

Why auto-destroy the spawn beacon if the assault player spawns on it??
