Bungie Has Gone Silent After Promising Marathon Open Trial Deluxe Edition Buyers the Full Game
Earlier this month, Bungie launched the Marathon Open Trial, which the developers hope will entice gamers to purchase the full game.
While this is a good marketing idea for people who aren’t familiar with the game or are on the fence about whether they want to pick it up, a storefront bug was spotted that let Open Trial players purchase the full game for just $14 by upgrading the Open Trial client to the Deluxe Edition.
This pushed Bungie to change the Deluxe Edition description, so that they (and Sony) won’t be bound to give the full game for just $14.
Bungie Unresponsive to Gamers After Promising Full Game
Bungie, for their part, announced that whoever did the Deluxe Edition trick will be granted the full game, though they won’t honor any purchases after the description change (which was on June 6).
One gamer reached out to us and mentioned that after purchasing the Deluxe Edition on June 2 via the Open Trial, they have still not received the full game that was promised. We were also sent screenshots as proof of purchase and that the game’s full version is still not available.
That’s not all, but even after reaching out to Bungie, whoever’s in charge of communication for the studio has ignored the messages. It’s not just our tipster that’s being ignored, either, as a slew of people who bought the Deluxe Edition via the Open Trial are also getting agitated at the unfulfilled promise, which you can see in the screenshots:
So far, Bungie has yet to announce just when exactly will gamers get the full version of Marathon. We’ve reached out to the studio about this and will update the article if we receive a response.

This adds pressure on Bungie, which is reportedly facing a large layoff of employees as Destiny 2’s live service cycle has ended.

Game is a piece of doodoo anyways, they should just get a refund and be some with it
So people who were were playing a demo who then used an obviously unintended method to obtain the full game are angry that Bungie haven’t given them the full game? Bungie said they would get it but I’m sure it’s not a priority to provide access to them.
In Bungie’s position I would have just refunded the players and been done with it. The entitlement here from those players is just ridiculous.
Something tells me they’re about to announce the game is going F2Pfor good; so they’re ignoring people who upgraded from the free trial and will just give them the same bonuses others who bought the game will get.
What a stupid oversight in the first place.
It was good of Bungie to honor the purchase (they kinda had to anyway) but to not have it finalized by the time the trial ended is a red flag.
Im one of the affected buyers, purchased on June 3rd.
PlayStation support says im entitled to receive the game but they are waiting for Bungie to give the go ahead.
This has been handled extremely poorly.
