Dead Island 2 has recently been released, and it looks like all the years in development have paid off. Dead Island 2’s sales have reached over 1 million copies in just three days, according to a recent announcement from Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios.

Alongside the major sales milestone, the studios have also revealed some interesting statistics regarding the game’s cumulative playtime, total player death count, and more. Here’s the full list straight from the press release:

  • More than 1 million – copies of Dead Island 2 sold in first weekend
  • 11 million – total hours played
  • 28 million – total number of player deaths (over twice the population of Los Angeles)
  • 45 million – zombies sliced in half
  • 756 million – zombie limbs hacked off
  • 1.1 billion – total number of zombies slayed

While the game’s reception has been a bit polarizing among players, we gave it an 8/10 score in our review. Here’s a snippet:

With a consistent and crunchy limb damage system, some great sightseeing to catch, and more secret side-quests than you can shake your damaging electrocutor pike at, Dead Island 2 is absolutely worth the ride, despite its flaws – that zombie sticking out of the kitchen sink? That’s not part of the terror ride, you can be certain about that.

Dead Island 2 is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you’ve recently picked up a copy yourself, check out the game’s recommended settings here.
