Double Fine has teased some upcoming new announcements to kick off the new year. The studio behind Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, and more is coming up on their 25th anniversary, and they appear to have plans lined up to celebrate a quarter-decade of games.
The studio teased some potential announcements on their Twitter/X this afternoon:
it's the new year. I've been in meetings. I got a COVID shot. I'm drinking tons of water. and double fine? is making games!

Double Fine has been well-known for cranking out phenomenal games forever. Psychonauts became a cult classic back in 2005, and ever since they’ve released good game after good game. We gave Psychonauts 2 our award for Best Action-Adventure Game back in 2021. We’re excited to see what they can come up with for their next title, whether it be a long-awaited sequel to Brutal Legend or a new IP entirely.
We haven’t heard much from the studio lately in terms of what they plan to do next. We had learned back in December of 2021 that they were moving away from post-launch development on Psychonauts 2 to begin work on future projects, but that was years ago at this point. This is what the team had to say at the time:
Psychonauts 2 has essentially wrapped up as a project although there will be tweaks and fixes as we move forward. The studio is already splitting up into various teams and starting different projects that we think you’ll enjoy. We like experimentation here at Double Fine. Every game is a chance to explore new ideas, new visual styles or gameplay, emotions, and more. Psychonauts 2 was a chance to revisit and reimagine the classic that launched our studio into the future. It was a long process but we like to think the pay off was pretty great. We stuck the landing.
Whatever Double Fine creates next, we’re here for it. We’ll be sure to let our readers know the second we hear more.
