eBay User Is Offering Service to “Attempt to Buy” the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition for $10,000
It was expected that the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection would attract the attention of scalpers, but a recent listing has been truly shocking. One eBay user is offering to “attempt to buy” a limited-edition PS5 Pro for an eye-watering $10,000 (technically $9,999). However, as of now, the listing has been removed by the seller, potentially due to backlash or eBay’s policies on early sales.
The PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition isn’t even available for official pre-order yet, yet this user had already posted the listing with a staggering $9,999 price tag. This move appeared over the top, especially since Sony hasn’t confirmed the actual retail price yet. The seller’s description began with the phrase, “Attempt to buy for you,” indicating that they weren’t even guaranteed to secure one of these exclusive consoles due to limited availability.
Sony will produce only 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition, which includes a 2TB SSD, Wi-Fi 7, and several limited-edition accessories like the DualSense wireless controller and DualSense Edge controller. Scalpers are likely to take advantage of the limited supply, just as they did with the PS5 launch in 2020.
Unfortunately, scalpers often use bots to make payments faster than the average person when stores open pre-orders for new devices. This makes it incredibly difficult for regular buyers to secure a pre-order, as bots usually grab most of the stock within seconds.
Pre-orders for the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection will officially open on September 26, 2024, through PlayStation Direct. It will then be available at other retailers starting October 10, 2024. While many gamers will be hoping to secure this limited edition PS5 Pro, the presence of scalpers could make the task extremely challenging. We’re already expecting these items to be heavily overpriced by resellers, though we’re hoping that won’t be the case.

Scalpers might use bots, but I’d assume they most likely don’t want bundles or limited edition items that they have to pay high dollar for. Considering scalpers are trying to spend as little as possible and make a profit. They might purchase the standard PS5 pro, but might not even be concerned about the 30th anniversary edition because of the cost.
