The game’s Switch release will be available through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. While both versions support split-screen multiplayer for up to four players, only the Switch version supports online play. Microsoft first-party studio Rare’s remaster of the game instead features improved control options, native 4K support, achievements, and smoother framerates.

GoldenEye 007 was released for the Nintendo 64 by Rare in 1997. The game was a critical and commercial success, and by the time Microsoft acquired Rare in 2002, it had sold over eight million copies. Cherished by millions of gamers worldwide, the game was previously remade in 2010 by Eurocom to a mixed-to-positive response. The Nintendo Switch and Xbox Game Pass re-releases of the game go live on January 27.
