Infinity Ward Officially Confirmed As Developer For “Innovative” New Call of Duty Title In 2016

Activision has officially confirmed that long-running Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward, makers of the Modern Warfare series, is expected to launch an “innovative” new Call of Duty title this year.

As the company announced the news during its fourth quarter 2015 earnings call earlier today, Infinity Ward similarly shared its excitement on Twitter:

In addition to the news, Activision also revealed Call of Duty as the “#1 selling franchise in North America seventh year in a row” and that the series has “surpassed 250M units sold life-to-date globally with over $15B in total sales.” Meanwhile, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has seen a “record Season Pass attach rate for downloadable content.”

As for later this year, Activision expects a “new innovative Call of Duty title from Infinity Ward…”

If I may add a touch of speculation to the hardly unexpected announcement, the way Activision worded the news suggest to me that Infinity Ward’s next project will not be the rumored “Modern Warfare Collection.” Yes, the word “innovative” is a marketing term that is often thrown around, but it’s also a way to describe something “new” or “forward-moving,” and, in this case, I think it was mentioned on purpose.

Either way, I expect we’ll find out relatively soon as we approach the month of May, which is typically when we learn a thing or two about the upcoming Call of Duty game.

Still, I’m interested to hear what you think. Drop your comments below!
