Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Release Date Reaffirmed for This Year by Sony

spider man 2 release date

In its earnings call for fiscal year 2022-2023 conducted today, Sony has reaffirmed that the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release date will fall during the current fiscal year 2023-2024. This is in line with Insomniac Games’ repeated commitments for a Fall 2023 launch for the hotly-anticipated title.

Hot on the heels of the revelation that the PS5 has outsold the PS4 in a comparable post-launch time period, Sony revealed today that its massively-popular current-gen console has surpassed 38.4 million units sold since launch. With console record-breaking Q1 shipments of 6.3 million units, an ambitious Sony is aiming to sell 25 million PS5 units during the current fiscal year, breaking all previous PlayStation sales records.

The accomplishment of that goal is to be facilitated by the launch of Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel, which officially only has a vague “Fall 2023” release window. Sony has now reaffirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s release date will fall during the current fiscal year during its earnings call:

We are also planning to release a major title, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, this fiscal year, and we aim to continue creating new IP, rolling out catalog titles for PC and strengthening live game service development.

Given that FY 23-24 ends next March, that could possibly mean that the game may just as well launch early next year, but Insomniac’s reiteration of a Fall 2023 launch as well as Venom voice actor Tony Todd’s claim of a September 2023 release all but confirms that the game will indeed launch in the fourth quarter of this year.

As the sequel approaches release, the original Marvel’s Spider-Man and the Miles Morales expansion are both enjoying resurgent popularity through their PC ports.
