The announcement was made via the official Platinum Games Twitter account:
METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE
10th Anniversary is Coming!Feb 21 2023 will mark a decade since the release of #MGR in Japan🎉
We'll be posting art right here to celebrate on the day, so don't miss it!🔥 pic.twitter.com/1DtGio22W0— PlatinumGames Inc. (@platinumgames) February 1, 2023
Alongside the celebration event of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, it looks like we’ll also be getting some art as part to commemorate the event. The tweet didn’t say anything other than what you see here, which means that we didn’t get any info regarding any possible MGRR ports or sequels.
Still, that doesn’t mean it’s out of the question. Dragon’s Dogma celebrated its 10-year anniversary last year, too, and during the celebration livestream, a sequel called “Dragon’s Dogma 2” was announced. Of course, Dragon’s Dogma and MGRR are very different games, and for all we know, this is just a quaint celebration for a fun third-person action game.
It’s worth noting that MGRR has gained a bit of a resurgence recently in the gaming community due to its iconic soundtrack and cutscenes. We’ll just have to wait for the day of the anniversary to see if Platinum Games has anything cooked up for the MGRR fandom, but until then, you’re better off leveling your expectations with some pretty art.
