Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 Confirmed in the Works by Konami; Hopes Not to Repeat Vol.1’s Mistakes

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2

Following the release of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 last year, one would assume that a follow up to it containing more of the franchise’s games would be in development. If you assumed that’d be the case, then congrats! Konami has today confirmed that yes, MGS: Master Collection Vol. 2 is indeed in development, though there’s not a lot to share outside of the confirmation.

The news was confirmed by Konami in the Metal Gear – Production Hotline #2 episode that aired today. In it, Jiro Oishi, promotions manager for the Metal Gear franchise, and Noriaki Okamura, the Production Producer of the Metal Gear series answered fan questions. Naturally, the conversation veered into in catalog of Metal Gear Solid, and Okamura had a lot to say about it, and referenced the first volume’s rather spotty launch, and how they don’t want to repeat it.

Note: the statement below comes from Konami’s in-show translator.

“Looking at the potential titles…Okay, it’s like this. We had HD ports of MGS1, 2, and 3. Or, sorry, not really for 1, but the other two. But most of the titles released after those don’t have a pre-existing HD port we could use. Some are in HD, but those would all be really big titles, and that comes with its own set of issues. So with all these factors to consider with the lineup, anything along the lines of “what’s in it?” Or questions like “how long will it be in development, when’ll it be out…” It’s going to be a little while until we can get a clear picture, but when we do, we’ll let you know here. Of course, we called the first one Vol. 1, so we are making a Vol. 2, that much is for sure. We’re also worried about how Vol. 1 had a pretty rough launch, with all the issues, so we’re going to do everything we can not to repeat that, but we just have to ask for everyone to give us time. And, you know… I feel like I can already see the comments. We’re probably getting blasted with “you didn’t answer squat!”, and I knew that was pretty likely. But I just kind of want to say, even if we can’t share much, we still want to check in with everyone. We feel like that’s sort of what we want the Production Hotline to be.”

You can watch Okamura talk about it around the 14:55 mark of the video below.

Based on Okamura’s statement, it’ll be quite some time before we see MGS: Master Collection Vol. 2 see the light of day. Of course, with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater waiting in the wings, that should make the wait a wee bit easier. While that game has no release date announced just yet, GameStop listed it for November. Could we be getting an announcement at this year’s Tokyo Game Show?

As for MGS: Master Collection Vol. 1, if you haven’t played it yet, go read our review of it here to see if it’s worth a pick up.
