New Mobile RPG “Mortal Kombat: Onslaught” Announced, Launches 2023
Following the Mortal Kombat 30th anniversary event (MK30), NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games have announced Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a new mobile RPG releasing in 2023. It will be the first mobile title in the series since 2015’s Mortal Kombat Mobile.
Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will introduce an all-new mobile-exclusive cinematic storyline, where players fight in real-time group battles using teams of fighters chosen from a vast roster of chracters. The game is set for a 2023 release date worldwide, with no gameplay or teasers revealed as of yet.
From Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat co-creator and NetherRealm Studios head:
We are pushing the boundaries of Mortal Kombat to allow players to experience the franchise in new ways, while still staying true to its core visceral nature. With Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we reimagined Mortal Kombat into a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat that both new and existing fans can enjoy.
Boon previously quashed hopes of a new NetherRealm Studios game announcement during the MK30 event, stating that the next game would be announced in “due time.”
We’ll keep our readers updated with any new Mortal Kombat: Onslaught news. In the meantime, check out the MK30 anniversary video as well as the re-releases of many Mortal Kombat films and animation in celebration of the event.
