Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Sony Interactive Entertainment has assured fans plans for PS5 Holiday 2020 release are still on schedule, and that the company has yet to be hit by major development problems on the software side of things.
In a prepared statement found on this year’s quarterly earnings report, Sony has given this update regarding the PlayStation 5.
Although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season. At this point in time, major problems have not arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony’s own first-party studios or its partners’ studios.
Of course, this isn’t to say that COVID-19 hasn’t affected the company in any other way as performance forecast is no longer being projected by the company. In addition to this, while existing hardware for the PlayStation 4 is still selling, the company has stated supply chain issues are affecting the console. However, it’s effected to be a short-term issue as the company slowly begins to return to the level of operation before the virus had hit.
The company didn’t elaborate on whether the PS5 launch would be as big as they had initially planned, but at least we know that they are still pushing for this year. As for why they’re being so silent on the promotion of the PS5, it was stated that they have strategic planning in the works and need to ensure they keep fundings balanced between marketing and other areas. No hints were given on when we could expect to see a full PS5 reveal, but seeing that it’s coming this year, we’re hoping it’s within the next month or so. Until then, stay tuned!
Are you confident with the PS5 holiday 2020 release schedule or do you think it’ll be delayed?
