Along with the new Year 8 Season 1 (Y8S1) content, Ubisoft has promised “something big” for console players to be revealed during the Rainbow Six Siege Y8S1 stream on February 18, 2023. Based off a teaser that features a danger sign next to a computer mouse icon, Rainbow Six Siege may finally be addressing keyboard-and-mouse (KBM) dominance in the console version of the game.

While Rainbow Six Siege does not feature crossplay between the PC and console versions of the game, a number of players have been using input translation tools such as the infamous XIM adapter to play the PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game with KBM controls. This results in what many perceive as an unfair advantage in the FPS combat of the game, but such exploits have remained unaddressed until today.

Two years ago, Ubisoft claimed that it could not “do anything about mouse and keyboard on console,” but that will seemingly be changing with the release of Rainbow Six Siege Y8S1. The developer will be revealing more details about the new measures it is taking against KBM dominance on console in the full Y8S1 update stream on February 18, 2023 at 2:30PM ET/11:30AM PT/8:30PM CET/3:30AM HKT (February 19), along with the roadmap and content details of the new “Operation Commanding Force.”

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and the now-defunct Google Stadia cloud gaming service. Stay tuned here at MP1st for our coverage of the Y8S1 update stream next week, which you will be able to watch on the Ubisoft YouTube or Rainbow Six Twitch channels.
