Report: A Plague Tale 3 Hinted at by New Job Listing

a plague tale 3

Fans hoping desperately for A Plague Tale 3 after its heartbreaking ending may finally be seeing their hopes answered. Asobo Studio is hiring a Senior Game Designer to support “the team behind A Plague Tale: Requiem from the pre-production phase.” While that doesn’t necessarily mean the job listing is for A Plague Tale: Requiem sequel or even DLC, the wording of the listing, the ending of Requiem, and its success at launch all point to the possibility that a sequel is very much in the cards.

Asobo Studio posted the Senior Game Designer listing on November 7. While the studio is also responsible for Microsoft Flight Simulator and has recently been rumored to be working on Forza Horizon 6, the job listing specifically states that the position will “strengthen the team behind “A Plague Tale: Requiem” from the pre-production phase” for a future production. That could be referring to the studio as a whole, but a similar Asobo job listing in April 2021 for animators used the same language for a then-unannounced project that turned out to be A Plague Tale: Requiem. The difference this time is that A Plague Tale 3, if indeed real, is currently in the “brainstorm” phase according to this listing, while the old animator listing set out specific, defined animation duties for a project already well under development.

And get this: the listing’s “little extras to be even more comfortable in this role” are having played A Plague Tale: Innocence and/or Requiem, and “professional experience on a narrative adventure game.” The latter description fits the experience of the series perfectly.

Requiem’s Game Director Kevin Choteau said Requiem was “the end” for now in October, but left the possibility of a sequel open pending the title’s success. And the title certainly has seen success: over one million players took up Amicia’s sling and crossbow during A Plague Tale: Requiem’s launch week.

While this in no way guarantees that we’ll see another entry in the A Plague Tale saga, it does point in that direction. This could be for a new franchise altogether, or perhaps DLC, but we wouldn’t count out A Plague Tale 3, as it’s the most obvious take given the hints we’ve mentioned above.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you’re wondering whether or not to pick it up, our review of the game, where we found it “better in seemingly every way than Innocence,” might make that decision easier for you.
