Report: Far Cry Spin-Off Game Featuring Captain Laserhawk Rated by PEGI

A new Far Cry spin-off game may have just been leaked by PEGI, the European organization behind rating games. A game with the title Captain Laserhawk Niji Warrior was rated PEGI-12 earlier today along with a brief description of what we might expect from the title.

For those unaware, Captain Laserhawk is the titular character from Ubisoft’s own Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix show on Netflix. Blood Dragon is a standalone expansion/spin-off of Far Cry 3, and it’s mostly laid dormant until Ubisoft breathed new life into it with the television show last year.

The Niji Warrior segment of the title is a reference to the Niji 6, a team of characters that appears in the Captain Laserhawk TV show. These characters are primarily a reference to Rainbow Six, seeing as how they’re all different colors of the rainbow and the word “Niji” translates to “rainbow” in Japanese. You can see those characters in a trailer from Netflix below:

We can glean some information about the title from the rating’s description. Captain Laserhawk Niji Warrior will apparently be a multiplayer PvP title in which players will fight in “laser deathmatches” to rack up the most eliminations. While characters will bleed when shot, their reactions to taking damage are apparently “unrealistic,” and players will break into pieces when they’re hit.

According to the PEGI rating, the game will also feature in-game purchases for cosmetics. This practice is exceedingly common in the modern age, especially for Ubisoft, so it’s not a surprise to see that included in this title. We don’t have any details on what sort of cosmetics will be included, though we imagine they’ll fit in line with the typical cyberware aesthetic of Captain Laserhawk or perhaps feature references to other Ubisoft titles as the show frequently features cameos and nods to the company’s extensive history.

This game hasn’t been announced or revealed by Ubisoft in any way, and there’s a chance it never comes out, so take it with a grain of salt. That being said, it’s unlikely that Ubisoft would go through the trouble of getting a product rated if they didn’t intend to release it, so there’s a good possibility that this one will see the light of day.

Another mainline Far Cry game is also in the works over at Ubisoft, though that project’s mostly under wraps. We’ll be sure to let our readers know if we learn any more about Captain Laserhawk Niji Warrior.
