While we already know that a new Witcher game is in development (no official title yet, but we’re pegging it The Witcher 4 for now), details for it are scarce. What we do know now is that Geralt of Rivia will be involved in the game somewhat, but he won’t be the lead character.

This was revealed by Geralt voice actor Doug Cockle who confirmed it in a video chat.

Witcher 4 has been announced. I can’t say anything about it. What we know is that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much, and the game won’t focus on Geralt, so it’s it’s not about him this time. We don’t know who it’s about — I’m excited to find out! I want to know!

Cockle adds that he has not seen any script yet, though follows up that even if he did, he couldn’t tell us, so he claims there is a chance he is lying or not.

Well, there you have it. At the very least, we now have confirmation that Geralt will not be the main character in the next Witcher game. Of course, if you finished The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, that might be something you’re expecting already. While nothing has been announced, I would be very surprised if Ciri isn’t the new protagonist of The Witcher 4.

The next Witcher game is still kept under wraps at CD Projekt RED and is being developed under the codename “Polaris.” It currently has about 400 developers working on it according to the studio’s announcement back in May. Aside from that, CDPR is also working on a The Witcher Remake which is codenamed “Canis Majoris” which also does not have a release date set just yet.

Are you glad to hear of this new or were you hoping Geralt would still be the protagonist? Sound off and let us know down in the comments.
