Experience Yu Suzuki’s epic video game saga in anime form as the long awaited first look trailer for Shenmue the Animation has finally debuted, giving fans of the Sega Dreamcast-born series an animated retelling of Ryo Hazuki’s journey to avenge his father’s death!

Here’s the trailer that debuted at this week’s New York Comic Con that shows off scenes from upcoming series!

Based on Suzuki’s epic video game series of the same name, Shenmue tells the story of teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki as he witnesses his father’s death at the hands of a Chinese mafia boss named Lan Di. Swearing revenge, Ryo searches for his dad’s killer as he uncovers clues around his hometown of Yokosuka, beginning a quest that will ultimately lead him to Hong Kong and China and a journey that will determine his destiny and potential as a warrior.

Announced a year ago at the virtual Crunchyroll Expo event, Shenmue the Animation will be handled by Telecom Animation Film and directed by Chikara Sakurai. Yu Suzuki will also serve as producer of the planned 13 episode series, which is expected to premiere some time in 2022.
