Sonic Frontiers, the open-world Sonic game released by Sega last November 2022, has apparently reached over 3.2 million units sold, according to the company’s most recent fiscal year report ending in March 2023. The Sonic Frontiers sales figure was mentioned alongside a slew of other information pertaining to the company’s other IPs such as the Persona series.

Sonic Frontier’s 3.2 million worldwide sales are just part of the company’s overall unit sales for the Sonic franchise, with an even larger recorded number of 8.15 million units sold across all Sonic IPs. For reference, Persona 5 Royal sold over 1.7 million units worldwide, with 3.27 million units sold across all Persona titles.

The report also goes on to mention Sega’s plans for the Sonic franchise in the company’s attempts to expand Sonic’s “brand awareness.” It lists the various planned Sonic-related initiatives for 2023, including the development of the third Sonic movie, the development of an “original TV series to be distributed in Paramount+,” and the release of a new Sonic title in “Sonic Origins Plus.”

The recent acquisition of Rovio by Sega was also discussed in the report, with both companies looking to offer support to one another. Sega will cooperate with Rovio to deliver live-service mobile games, whereas Rovio will receive help from Sega to launch their IPs across multiple platforms.
