Sony Confirms PSVR Games Won’t Be Compatible With PSVR2

psvr games on psvr2

If you bought a PlaySation VR (PSVR) for the PS4, and hoping that you’ll be able to play your old VR games on the PS5 once the PSVR2 is released, think again! Sony has confirmed that the PSVR games won’t be compatible with PSVR2!

This was confirmed by Hideaki Nishino, SVP of Platform Experience of the PSVR2 during a podcast conducted by Sony

Q: I’ve been getting some questions from some friends, from some gamers, just about whether or not they will be able to play original Playstation VR games on Playstation VR 2; so, what say you?

Nishino: PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience.PSVR2 has much more advanced features like all-new controllers that have haptic feedback, adaptive triggers — as I’ve said — and inside out tracking, eye tracking in it, studio’s audio (?) coming together, so this means that developing games for PSVR2 requires a whole different approach than the original PSVR.

You can listen to the podcast below (part about the PSVR2 not compatible with PSVR games is around the 29:10 mark).

While I assume that most people that buy the PSVR2 will buy it play the new games for it, this is still a bummer; especially for those who built a nice collection of PSVR games and were hoping to play them on PSVR2 with better tech.

Will this dissuade you from buying a PSVR2? Let us know down in the comments. The PSVR2 is set for release in “early 2023” according to Sony. Check out gameplay footage of Resident Evil Village, and more games running on PSVR2 right here.

Before all the Xbots make fools of themselves just remember……. there is no reason that Xbox series s and x couldn’t support Kinect 1.0, 2.0 and their games. They simply did not add it.

And I bet you forgot and will completly ignore the fact you just read this. PS Move, an accesory from 2 gens ago works on PS5 along with the PSVR headset and over 900 games. If its feasibly possible, PlayStation have already proven they will do BC. PS5 can play 99.9% of PS4’s games. The same can’t be said for series s and Xbone games though. Fact.
