Last year, we learned about the closure of Deviation Games, a video game studio founded by veterans of the Call of Duty series. Unfortunately, the studio never had a chance to present the AAA game they were working on for Sony. Soon after, it was revealed that some of the former members of Deviation Games had gone on to found a new studio under PlayStation Studios.

Now, one of the people who left Deviation Games before its closure has confirmed that they have created a new studio in partnership with Sony. This person is Jason Blundell, one of the co-creators of Call of Duty: Zombies before leaving Activision in 2020. He confirmed this in an interview, where he also revealed the name of the new studio.

Dark Outlaw Games Announced as Newest Studio Under PlayStation Studios

Blundell explained that the name of the new studio is ‘Dark Outlaw’ and that they have been working “in the shadows” for some time. He mentioned that it’s still early to show what they’ve been working on, but assured that it is a Sony first-party studio, even though Sony has not officially announced it yet.

Given his years of experience with Call of Duty: Zombies, Jason Blundell’s new game is likely to be a “games-as-a-service” title, making him a valuable addition to this genre within Sony’s plans.

Blundell expressed, “It’s such a privilege to be able to do it with Sony as a new first-party studio, Sony doesn’t start up first-party studios all the time, so to have that privilege is humbling.”

In other news, PlayStation aims to attract PC gamers to play single-player sequels on consoles, while live service titles will release simultaneously on both PC and PS5.

Thanks, VGC!
