Sony Purchases 1.9% Stake of From Software Parent Company Kadokawa Corporation

Sony Kadokawa Corporation

One of the biggest names in gaming joins forces with one of the biggest publishing arms of manga and anime, as Sony has formed a capital alliance with publishing company Kadokawa Corporation — purchasing a 1.9% stake from the company which will utilize Sony’s global expansion power of animation and consumer games. Kadokawa Corporation also happens to be the parent company of From Software — the studio behind the Dark Souls and Bloodbrone games. The partnership will also see smartphone company CyberAgent getting the same shares as well, which will allow Kadokawa access to their game developer arm CyberGames and their popular set of Japanese mobile game IPs.

Reported by VGC, the deal will definitely boost Sony’s power and reach as a media company — giving them access to anime and manga IPs that could help them boost their business.

“We believe that it is necessary to procure such funds in order not to miss potential investment opportunities and to solidify our ability to create IP based on our track record of creating rich and unique IP consisting of a diverse portfolio of books, movies, animations, games, and UGC platforms, both financially and financially,”

While that is going on, PlayStation is busy with their PS5 promotions and distribution — including releasing a PS5 Launch Collection Merchandise Bundle set.

Does this mean we can expect more From Software to be PlayStation-exclusive? Your guess is as good as ours at this point.
