Sony Still Deciding on PS6 Price and Release Date
While everyone is waiting to hear more about the PlayStation 6, Sony has just confirmed that it has yet to decide anything about PS6, even its price and release date.
Earlier this year, it was reported that PS6 could be delayed to 2028 or even 2029 due to ongoing RAM shortages and other issues, but it looks like Sony isn’t thinking much about the console at the moment amid rising memory costs and other economic factors.
While we’re not expecting Sony to just drop the PS6’s release date and price, it’s another thing for the company to admit they haven’t decided on it yet — this deep in the PS5 lifecycle.
Totoki replied that as the price of memory increases, the BoM (Bill of Materials) and manufacturing costs also go up, which has a massive effect on console manufacturing.
However, he said that Sony has already secured the necessary materials for the rest of the year to continue developing the PS5 and maintain a stable price for fans. He went on to talk further about the PS6. Totoki stated that Sony has no plans yet for the console’s price or release date.
Totoki mentioned, “We have not yet decided when we will launch the new console or at what prices, so we would like to closely monitor the situation.”
He also stated that, given the current situation, the memory price is expected to be very high in FY 2027 due to supply shortages, so they will have to be extra careful when working on the PlayStation 6.
Sony is also considering different ways to reduce costs and even revealed that PlayStation plans to change its business model to better position the PS6 for sale. Sony will definitely have to come up with a different strategy for the PS6 this time; otherwise, the console’s prices are going to be insanely high, which means the people who can afford will be a small subset of hardcore gamers that have extra money lying around.
In related news, we recently ran a report on the PS6, and how a new untitled horror game is in development, alongside other details surrounding the console.

Obviously going to cost at least as much as the PS5 Pro ($900 right now) it will have the capabilities to run games at 4k with a bunch of AI shit and raytracing enabled at a max of 60fps for most games. We can’t blame RAM or whatever for the price increase because look at what Nintendo just did. They sued to get money back they claimed they lost due to tariffs (and having to delay and increase the price due to those tariffs) – that money didn’t go back to consumers who actually paid for the tariffs. Then they increased the price AGAIN another $50. A $350 console is going to cost $500 due to corporate greed, not because of anything else happening in the world.
However, he said that Sony has already secured the necessary materials for the rest of the year to continue developing the PS5 and maintain a stable price for fans.
Uh, they just raised all prices, even on used PS5’s by a hundred bucks, minimum.
Whatever the cost saving measures Sony implements for PS6 will undoubtedly deliver us an inferior product on launch, like no disc drive or stand (so ridiculous with the Pro).
With how long cross gen games stuck around this time it’s going to take a fair amount to get me on board with PS6 anywhere near launch. They really ought to just wait til stupid president is out of office so things can maybe get beck to normal.
