Soulcalibur III Coming to PS5 and PS4 via PlayStation Plus Classics Later This Year, Standalone Release Also Planned
Bandai Namco has officially announced that Soulcalibur III, the 2005 PlayStation 2 fighting game, will join the PlayStation Plus Premium Classics Catalog later this year.
The title will be playable on both PS5 and PS4, bringing back the iconic weapon-based fighter to modern consoles for the first time.
Soulcalibur III Joins PlayStation Plus Premium Classics Catalog on PS5 & PS4
Originally released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, Soulcalibur III was praised for its deep combat system, large roster of fighters, and variety of single-player modes. It also introduced the popular “Create-A-Soul” character creation mode and the unique “Chronicles of the Sword” campaign mode.
With the upcoming re-release, both new and returning players will once again get to experience the classic, now with some modern system features.
Fans have shown strong excitement for Soulcalibur III’s return; however, many are also asking for features like trophy support and small gameplay fixes. That said, trophies seem unlikely to happen, as Bandai Namco hasn’t included them in most of its classic re-releases, such as the recent Tekken 2 and 3.
Players are also requesting that the infamous save data corruption issue from the PS2 version be fully resolved in this release, with the new save state and rewind options expected to help prevent it.
Although no specific release date has been confirmed yet, Bandai Namco stated that Soulcalibur III will arrive on PlayStation Plus Premium “later this year,” with a standalone edition also available for purchase.
