Xbox Helping With Gameplay Development of Kojima’s “OD” Horror Game Not Just Tech
Hideo Kojima is developing OD, a new horror game in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, and he aims to make it one of the most terrifying gaming experiences ever created, describing it as a “game like no other.”
Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft’s gaming division, has also expressed strong enthusiasm for OD. He said that when he saw the footage during Kojima Productions’ Beyond the Strand 10th-anniversary event, he was impressed by its high quality and excited about the studio’s bold direction.
Xbox Confirms Full Support for Kojima’s OD

In an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu, Phil Spencer spoke about Xbox’s collaboration with Hideo Kojima on the upcoming horror title OD. He stated that Kojima wants to create a “very scary game” and reaffirmed Xbox’s full support for the project.
“When I spoke with Director Kojima about the new game, he shared some very bold ideas with me. He also said, ‘I want to make a really scary game.'” said Spencer
Spencer admitted that he was really impressed with the high quality of the trailer and added that Xbox is supporting Kojima Productions not only on the technical side but also in gameplay development.
“Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios are working closely together on both gameplay and technology,” Spencer explained. “When I saw the trailer at the 10th-anniversary event, I was happy at how high the quality was.”
He also addressed the release schedule, explaining that OD was internally delayed due to the actors’ strike. As a result, the game still doesn’t have a confirmed release date.
“A specific date has not been decided yet,” Spencer confirmed. “Due to the Screen Actors Guild strike in 2023, it has been difficult to secure a filming schedule, which has delayed development. We are working hard on development, but a specific date has not yet been decided.”
In other news, Hideo Kojima predicted at the Brazil Game Show 2025 that artificial intelligence will eventually create remakes and sequels for games and other media.
Also of note regarding Xbox news, the division’s president said exclusive games are “antiquated,” which really does drive home how Xbox doesn’t care about console exclusives anymore.
