Rumor: Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Mode Dubbed “RedSec,” Will Launch as a Free-to-Play
We’re a few short days away from the launch of Battlefield 6 Season 1, and although nothing official has been announced, it looks like Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale mode is launching the same day.
A new rumor has popped up, claiming that it’ll launch as a free-to-play experience, with EA and the studios set to announce it either the day of or the day before Season 1’s release.
That’s not all, as the mode will apparently be called “RedSec.”
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Mode Launching as a Free-to-Play Experience

The rumor comes from reliable Call of Duty creator and leaker, Modern Warzone, who shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode is still launching on October 28, 2025. Despite no official announcement from EA, Modern Warzone has doubled down on its previous release date leaks, sticking to the same day as Season 1’s launch for Battlefield 6. Oh, and it’s apparently called “RedSec,” whatever that might mean.
EXCLUSIVE: The F2P Battlefield 6 battle royale is officially named “Battlefield: RedSec”.
Releasing October 28th as previously reported, however it looks like there won’t be any trailers or official announcements until the 28th itself instead of a day before.

Now comes the good news. Despite being built off Portal, which is included in the base game of Battlefield 6, RedSec will be free-to-play across all platforms. That means you won’t need to own Battlefield 6 to experience the game, which is a smart move on EA and the Battlefield Studios’ part, considering most Battle Royale experiences are free-to-play. Apex Legends, Call of Duty Warzone, and Fortnite are the big ones that come to mind.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the Battlefield Studios tackle a Battlefield Battle Royale game. Considering most are about movement, and Battlefield in general has been a slower-paced shooter, on top of heavily featuring vehicles and destruction, these might be the things to set RedSec apart from other Battle Royale games. Will people actually like that? Well, we’ll have to wait and see.
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode, “RedSec,” is currently rumored to launch on October 28, 2025, the same day as Season 1. Speaking of which, you can read the entire patch notes for the upcoming season even if it’s not live yet.
