Steam Now Lets You Add Your Hardware Specs to Reviews
Even though Steam holds a dominant position in the PC market, Valve continues to improve it. Less than a week ago, the company surprised users with an interesting change for early access games.
Now, it is preparing one of the most needed updates to the platform’s review system.
Steam Improves Reviews by Letting Players Share Their PC Specs

In the Steam beta version, Valve has added a new feature that allows users to attach their hardware specifications to a game review. This means that other players will be able to see what kind of PC was used when someone reports performance problems or, on the other hand, says the game runs smoothly.
Although it may seem like a small change, it could have a big impact. Performance issues are one of the most common reasons for negative reviews on Steam. However, these problems often depend on the hardware being used. Seeing the specs of a player who had a bad experience — or those of someone who had no issues — helps people understand how the game might run on their PC before buying it.
This feature could also reduce dishonest reviews where users claim to have better hardware than they actually do.
It is important to note that this function is not yet available in the live version of Steam. To use it, players must join the platform’s beta program, which is open to everyone. To do this, users need to open “Settings,” go to the “Interface” tab, and select “Client Beta Participation.” However, unless someone wants to test new features early or help Valve with feedback, this is more of a feature worth waiting for rather than something essential right now.
That said, Valve still has work to do on its review system. While it has taken steps to stop review bombing, reviews today have lost some credibility due to trolling and low-quality posts. Fixing these problems will take more careful changes.
In other news, over 18,000 games were released on Steam in 2025, but nearly half of them received fewer than 10 player reviews, showing just how hard it has become for new titles to gain visibility.
