The Finals Adds Mouse and Keyboard Support on Consoles
The curtains have been pulled back, and Season 8 of The Finals is now underway! With details released alongside its launch, Embark Studios has introduced some rather surprising new features to the game, with one of them being full mouse and keyboard support on consoles!
For those who want to use KBM on consoles, your wish has been granted!
All we can really say is, it’s about damn time.
The Finals Gets More Competitive on Consoles With Mouse and Keyboard Support
As revealed with today’s Season 8 release, mouse and keyboard support has finally arrived for The Finals on console. Players looking to get a little more competitive with the precise aiming that a mouse can provide can now do so on consoles.
We aren’t sure if this will affect cross-play matchmaking, in that it will group you based on input, rather than platform, since crossplay in The Finals opens you up to every platform. There is no console-only crossplay option, though you can turn crossplay off to matchmake with players on the same platform.
We’ll go out on a limb and say this update probably doesn’t introduce any input-based matchmaking, which does beg the question: What does this mean for those who play with crossplay off now? For many who prefer to play on “even” ground on consoles, this certainly opens them to inputs with better latency than a standard console controller.
Though considering Embark’s plans for The Finals, where they want to push for an esports-focused future, adding this feature to console does make a ton of sense. It not only makes the game more competitive, but also opens up opportunities for those who primarily game on consoles and want to enter the competitive space.
I’m down for it, though I can understand the concern some will have over this. Let’s just hope Embark continues to listen to the community, and at the very least, offer some sort of solution to those who don’t want to be matched up with different input players down the road.
Another new feature added in Season 8, though in beta, is kill cams, but it won’t be available on all platforms.
