Xbox Series S continues to spark debates among gamers and developers, with some developers often pointing out the limits of the entry-level hardware from Microsoft. These limits have even caused delays for Xbox versions of big games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Black Myth: Wukong.

Despite this, Microsoft Gaming’s CEO, Phil Spencer, has made it clear that the Series S will keep getting support and games until the end of this generation.

Phil Spencer Confirms Continued Support for Xbox Series S

Spencer addressed this topic in a recent interview with Destin, responding to concerns about the performance gap between the Xbox Series X and Series S. “With the rise of handheld PCs and the introduction so far of the Switch 2, as developers, we’re building on more device specs, from lower-powered, battery-powered devices all the way through things that plug into the wall. I actually think we have a real advantage because we’ve been targeting S for quite a while, that our games have been built and they’re portable across many different specs.,” the CEO stated.

He also said, “When we look at something like a Steam Deck or ROG Ally, we’ve got this S version of the games, that are more tailored to the device specs of a lot of devices that frankly are getting introduced right now, and I think that helps us.”

Additionally, Spencer reiterated that the Xbox Series S still delivers a high-quality gaming experience. “I’m playing Indiana Jones on S and it looks great, so it’s definitely capable of playing current generation games in a great way,” Spencer added, highlighting the console’s capability to handle next-generation games.

While the Series S offers lower performance compared to the Series X, it seems to meet the needs of a more casual audience and remains an appealing choice for those seeking a more economical console without significantly compromising the gaming experience.

People seem to miss the fact that not only does series s make up the majority of the series console sales, like 75% but those numbers ARE NOT UNIQUE players.

Just look at darth and obscure over on N4G. Throughout 2020 and 2021 they were PERFECTLY happy to sing from the rooftops that they, massive Xbots that they are, have a series x AND one or maybe even 2 series s consoles, “one in every room” as they claimed. They have gone awfully quiet about this the past 2 years I must say.

So where does that leave us, if many of the only 8 million series x owners, all own a series s too and maybe even a second one???
THIS is why Xbox’s current gen install base is so much smaller than you Xbots even realise, and shrinking even more with people abandoning the ecosystem in droves since the “business update” nearly 12 months ago.
