Demon’s Souls Update 1.005 Released Right on Time for PS5 Pro’s Release
Bluepoint Games has released Demon’s Souls update 1.005, and this should be for the game’s PS5 Pro enhancement patch, which other PS5 games have been getting as well. Outside of that, don’t expect any other new content, as FromSoftware has concluded the game’s run even back in 2009 on the PS3.
Demon’s Souls Update 1.005 PS5 Pro Features – What’s New:
Update (11/7/24): Bluepoint has finally released the changelog!
- Access to the Nexus Status is available with no cost.
Character Creator is available with no cost
Mirror Mode is available with no cost - Various crash fixes
- Fixed issue with inventory corruption
- Fixed issues with the correct Audio Output not detected in some cases
- PS5 Pro Specific Enhancements
Material-displaced Contact Shadows for all dynamic lights
PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Support, upscaling to 4K targeting 60fps
While Sony hasn’t mentioned anything about today’s patch just yet, we do know a good amount of what upgrades are being added in thanks to Digital Foundry’s hands-on with the game on the PS5 Pro a few weeks ago!
Note that upon our inspection, we didn’t see a “Pro” mode available in the settings. Having said that, perhaps this patch applies the improvements and only those with a PS5 Pro will see the advantage? In any case, here are the confirmed upgrades owners of Sony’s mid-gen console refresh will see:
- Should be running at 4K resolution at 60 frames-per-second (previously the game featured a Cinematic mode that aimed to run at 4K at 30fps, and Performance mode that ran at 1440p at 60fps). Note that Sony did NOT confirm any hard numbers on upscaling.
- New Contact Shadow System – Similar to the screen space shadows system used on base PS5. More noticeable in environments with rocks, but should show finer shadow details.
For those wondering, you still cannot delete characters individually.
Basically, that’s about it. Having said that Demon’s Souls already looks gorgeous, so there’s not a lot of ways Sony can spruce this up via the PS5 Pro. I mean, even if the game is four years old, it’s still one of the best looking games on the PS5.
If you notice anything that got added or changed, leave a comment below and let us know. We’ve contacted Sony about the patch as well, and if we get a response, we’ll update the article.
If you’ve yet to play Demon’s Souls, perhaps now might be the best time. Our review of it gave it a perfect 10/10 score and mentioned, “Bluepoint gives the entire experience a fresh coat of visuals and audio paint, as well as quality of life improvements that brings the 11 year old cult classic into modern gaming with applaudable success and is a true showpiece for the power of the PS5.”
Other first-party games that recently got a PS5 Pro patch include The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Horizon Forbidden West, and Stellar Blade.
