Report: Gears of War: E-Day Is No Longer Coming to PS5
Gears of War: E-Day was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 without any information about its launch platforms. While a PC and Xbox Series X|S release was expected, many fans wondered whether the game would also come to PS5.
Since then, Microsoft has also expanded its multiplatform strategy by bringing more of its games to other platforms. With Gears of War: Reloaded also launching on PS5, many players began to believe that Gears of War: E-Day could also come to PS5.
However, according to a well-known insider, that may no longer be the case.
Gears of War: E-Day May Stay Xbox Console Exclusive After New Microsoft Decision
Just hours before the Xbox Game Showcase 2026, Jeff Grubb spoke on the Giant Bomb podcast and shared an update about a possible PS5 release.
According to the insider, Gears of War: E-Day was originally planned for PS5, but Microsoft has recently changed its plans. As a result, the game is now expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC only.
“Gears of War E-Day was gonna be on PS5. It’s not anymore. That just happened. That was a decision that just got made,” Grubb said.
He suggested that the decision to cancel the PS5 version may have come from the new Xbox leadership under Asha Sharma. After taking the role, the Sharma said that Xbox would reevaluate its approach to exclusivity. If that is the case, keeping Gears of War: E-Day off PlayStation could be one of the first major decisions made under her leadership.
It is important to note that nothing has been officially confirmed yet. However, we will not have to wait long for more information, as the Xbox Games Showcase is scheduled for today, June 7 at 1 PM ET, followed immediately by the Gears of War: E-Day Direct presentation.
