Valve Confirms End of Physical Steam Gift Cards
If you enjoy buying physical Steam Gift Cards, whether for yourself or as a gift for a friend, there’s some disappointing news.
Valve has officially confirmed that it is ending the sale of physical Steam Gift Cards.
The announcement was made through an update to the page that provides information about buying and redeeming the prepaid cards.
Valve Ends Physical Steam Gift Cards as Scammers Remain a Problem

The company says the decision was made because scammers kept finding new ways to misuse the cards. Valve introduced several measures to try to reduce the problem, but those efforts were not enough to stop it completely.
They said, “We’ve responded to gift card scams over the years by taking a number of actions to protect customers. As we have continued to put more and more restrictions in place, scammers have adapted. They continue to have an impact on Steam customers and other unsuspecting individuals. So we’ve made the difficult decision to end the Steam Gift Card program at retail stores.”
As a result, the company has decided to stop supplying physical Steam Gift Cards to retailers. “As Steam Gift Cards run out of stock at retail locations, we will not be restocking them. We expect all retailers to be out of stock by the end of 2026,” they added.
For those who already have gift cards and are worried, there’s no need to panic. Valve has confirmed that existing gift cards will continue to work, so you can still redeem them on Steam whenever you want
In other news, Steam is preparing a feature that would add a native 30-day price history tool directly to game store pages to improve discount transparency. Another feature reportedly in development is an estimated FPS display that would show how well a game is expected to run on a user’s PC.
